Crannog Area |
 |
This was the type of house lived in during the Viking times.
It was always surrounded by water so that people could protect their animals in times of trouble. People also lived in the house, where they would sleep on the ground, on a bed of straw and they would light a fire in the centre of the crannog and the smoke would go out the opening.
Even though the smoke was bad for their health the good thing about it was it killed off all the insects which were in the Crannog and peoples clothes.
